Abel Mireles & Frontera Mambo Project
featuring Candice Reyes

Abel Mireles & Frontera Mambo Project is a high-energy Latin Jazz ensemble that serves as a sonic bridge between cultures. Rooted in the unique landscape of the El Paso, TX – Juárez, Chihuahua border, the group explores the complex identity of the "frontera" through a blend of sophisticated improvisation and irresistible Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Their music translates the spirit of the borderlands—a place where languages and traditions intersect—into a modern jazz context that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking.
The quintet features a world-class lineup of musicians from Mexico, the USA, Cuba, and Puerto Rico, creating a truly international sound. Led by saxophonist Abel Mireles, the band features Fernando Lechuga on piano, David Rodriguez on bass, Ivan Medina on percussion, and Angel Jimenez on drums. Together, they create a vibrant musical tapestry that honors the roots of Mambo while pushing the boundaries of contemporary Latin Jazz.
Candice Reyes
An acclaimed jazz vocalist and recording artist from El Paso, Tx, Candice Reyes has gained a reputation as an active Latina jazz vocalist in both the East and West coast. She has released two solo albums "Crossing Over" produced by Mack Goldsbury with Shade Records in 2014 and her latest album "Your Way" 2018.
Candice's passion for performing and working with the youth led her and husband Abel Mireles to found THE JAZZ EXCHANGE, as they proved to be visionary leaders and entrepreneurs whose work has been recognized locally and nationally. The musical couple-led organization's mission focuses on building communities through music and education.
