About the event
The NMSU Jazz Sextet includes current and former university music faculty and clinicians who direct jazz ensembles and provide lessons or workshops for college students. The group was founded in 2022 with a focus on education, including hosting the annual Jazz Jumpstart Festival, where they have performed with such guest artists as Terell Stafford, Raffy Bushman, Steve Cardenas and Brian Allison. The sextet’s songbook includes a wide range of jazz music, from standards to contemporary tunes.
Musicians include Josh Carter, tenor saxophone, Jacob Dalager, trumpet, Allan Kaplan, trombone, Miguel Torres, piano, Christian Chesanek, bass, and Brian Wright, drums.
Audience members can join the MVJBS at 6:30 p.m. on April 27, 2025 at Alma D’Arte Charter High School. A dessert social will kick off the festivities followed by music at 7 pm.
