Members of the Mesilla Valley Jazz and Blues Society invite members of the public to join them for an evening of community and swinging tunes on Sept. 21.
MVJBS’ monthly gathering and performance will feature the popular Mesilla Valley Big Band at 6:30 p.m. at Alma D’Arte Charter High School. Audiences can plan on enjoying a mix of jazz charts, from standards to newer compositions.
The Mesilla Valley Big Band consists of about 16 members from Las Cruces, Deming and El Paso and is led by longtime music educator Johnny Lang.
“The members really enjoy making music with each other and it’s a joy for me to be their leader,” says Lang. “Considering its size, Las Cruces has a number of outstanding musical ensembles for the public to choose to listen to. We hope you take time to come out and hear the Mesilla Valley Big Band.”
MVJBS members and members of the public are all welcome to attend the September gathering. Music will follow a short organization update provided by MVJBS President Carol Mertensmeyer.
