Youth musicians from The Jazz Exchange Academy will join the Mesilla Valley Jazz and Blues Society for a special performance at the organization’s next monthly gathering in May.
The academy is a program developed through The Jazz Exchange – an El Paso-based nonprofit music organization – and provides opportunities for musicians aged 11 to 18 to play in various jazz ensembles and further their musical knowledge. TJE Combo Ensembles include the Satchmo Blues Ensemble, directed by Christian Chesanek, and TJE Jazz Messengers, directed by Abel Mireles. Mireles also directs TJE Youth Jazz Orchestra.
Students play pieces across the range of jazz repertoire from big band hits to more contemporary compositions. Join MVJBS on May 18 for an evening of rich jazz sets performed by the next generation of Borderland musicians.
MVJBS meetings are open to the public and all are welcome. Attendance is $5 for members, $10 for non-members and $2 for students at the door.
